Functional Medicine Clinical Health Coaching

What is a clinical health coach?

The clinical health coaches are part of the BCIM clinical team. They work side-by-side with the physicians to put the clinical team’s recommendations, including prescribed labs, tests, lifestyle changes, and the patient’s personal health goals, into an action plan.

Making healthy lifestyle changes is foundational to the practice of Functional Medicine and our clinical health coaches typically address the following lifestyle areas:

  • Nutrition

  • Movement

  • Stress management

  • Sleep

  • Detox

how does health coaching work?

Your health coach will conduct a 45-minute introductory session and several 30-minute follow-up sessions as part of the BCIM new patient program. Health coaches are trained in motivational interviewing and positive psychology in order to:

  • Help patients implement the physician’s recommendations

  • Partner with patients to create goals and action steps

  • Help patients discover the “why” behind their desired health change

  • Empower patients to be the experts on their own bodies, minds, and circumstances

  • Help patients identify challenges and blind spots that are preventing change

  • Provide support, accountability, and education

  • Use their broad knowledge of health and wellness to help navigate a variety of health concerns

  • Act as a liaison between the patient and BCIM staff to ensure a high level of care
