What is Pediatric Functional Medicine?
We believe that a healthy baby begins even before conception. For this reason, we also work with moms to establish their optimal health goals preconception as they plan for pregnancy. We then follow both mom and baby throughout pregnancy and post-delivery, extending through the many stages of childhood development. Following the child through their early years of rapid development is critical. In the first few years of life, a child goes through rapid changes in brain development, assimilation of their microbiome (which aids in creating the health of his/her immune system), as well as physical, psychological and emotional growth.
Dr Walsh and our extended team of providers use a family-centered, whole-person strategy that addresses the underlying factors that influence your child’s health, rather than just treating the symptoms of a health condition. The consultation consists of an intensive review of your child’s history as well as determining the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. This focused visit enables us to give recommendations and assist you in choosing the best plan of care for your child.
The emphasis of pediatric functional medicine is early recognition of health issues with early interventions to correct imbalances that can lead to chronic illness. For this reason, we focus on preventive medicine for every patient. We integrate principles of both traditional family medicine and functional medicine to provide the best means we can offer to address the needs of all our patients on many levels.
Some of the pediatric conditions we focus on in our practice are:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Sensory Processing Disorder
